Business Finance – Operations Management Week 4 Assignment – Organizational Issues and Solutions

Overview

Leaders address issues and propose solutions. As a leader, you'll need to stay on top of events that may facilitate or hinder productivity. You must create and implement solutions to address these issues.

You will continue to use the approved organization you selected in the Week 2 and 3 Assignments. Describe its organizational issue and identify how it hinders organizational efficiency. This assignment exposes you to complex modern organizational challenges. The solutions you devise should reflect your learning and research of organizational and individual influences in the workplace.

Instructions

The new CEO has selected your consulting firm to provide an analysis of the organization's efficiency.

Write a 2–3 page, double-spaced paper in which you present to the CEO your findings during your research steps. You must propose strategic solutions in your paper that include the following:

  1. Describe the organization and the organizational issue that adversely affected productivity you propose to review and resolve.
    • Use the description and feedback from the instructor in the Week 3 Assignment.
  2. Analyze the organization's culture and how it has contributed to the identified issue.
    • Hint: Review the mission and vision statement as well as the corporate website for information.
  3. Describe how the current corporate culture facilitated the development of the current issue.
  4. Identify the organization's areas of weakness as they relate to the issue.
    • To help identify the areas of weakness, apply your research on organizational behavior approaches to aspects of corporate culture—such as diversity, teamwork, and motivational strategies.
  5. Develop recommendations for management that include the organizational practice modifications you would use to solve identified weaknesses and issues.
  6. References and citations:
    • Provide at least two quality resources such as the course textbook, a company website, business websites (CNBC, Bloomberg, and the like), resources from the Strayer Library, and/or outside sources. Note: Wikipedia and Web-based blogs do not qualify as credible resources.
    • You can find in-depth and quality company information using the Nexis Uni database through the Strayer University Online Library.
    • In-text citations are required when paraphrasing or quoting another source.

Confidentiality: Since you will be addressing real issues in real organizations in your assignments, it is important to respect confidentiality. Feel free to use an alias for any company or individuals you might mention in your assignments. Remember that all discussions about these organizations should only occur within this course and not be shared with people outside the course.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Propose a solution for an organizational culture issue.

Organizational Culture Managers play a vital role in influencing organizational culture

    Organizational Culture

Managers play a vital role in influencing organizational culture. It is important that managers be able to identify and implement successful strategies to restore a dysfunctional culture to a functional one.

Recommend one key strategy or method (with supporting citations) that will restore functionality to a dysfunctional organizational culture, where internal distrust and competitive behavior flourish, sharing your recommendation with your peers. A reactive or retrenchment (not proactive) strategy is needed since the organization is on the verge of collapse due to this chronic dysfunction. Do not suggest establishing trust to resolve this crisis since this organization does not have enough time to build trust, which is a proactive strategy. A quick-fix reactive strategy is needed to save the company now so that long-term proactive strategies may be implemented later. Justify your reasoning with support from peer-reviewed literature and the Bible or Christian literature. Most of your discussion should concentrate on describing how you will implement this success strategy for maximum effectiveness.

Remember: This discussion and all assignments in this course have a management focus, not a leadership focus. There is a distinct difference between management and leadership. Discuss management, not leadership. The Contemporary Management text only provides basic topical information. As a research-intensive doctoral course, you will need to research current peer-reviewed literature. There is no assignment in this course that can be completed by relying on the text alone.

    Discussion Assignment Instructions

The student will complete 2 discussions in this course. For each of these 2 assignments, the student will post one thread of at least 500 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module: Week. The student must then submit a thorough and constructive analysis of your classmate’s main post, replying to 2 students in at least 250 words for each reply by 11:59 PM (ET) on Sunday of the given Module: Week. Support each thread with at least 2 citations from peer-reviewed journal articles without any quoted words. Also support each reply with at least 1 citation from peer-reviewed journal articles without any quoted words. A cover page, abstract, introduction and conclusion are not required, but if added, does not count toward the minimum word count. With each reply, add a new or deeper perspective that is based on peer-reviewed sources and biblical integration. Be sure to include meaningful biblical integration for initial thread and both replies. Do not merely quote a Bible verse but explain its relevancy. Ask at least one meaningful question to extend the discussion. Demonstrate respect for the diverse views expressed in the posts of your peers. Do not critique the grammar, spelling, or structure of your classmates’ posts. Your responses to your classmates must be of substance, with a strong connection to assignment concepts, building upon your classmates’ comments, not just statement of agreement or affirmation. This assignment will make use of current APA formatting standards.

Write a report on estimating how much are you most likely to earn after graduation

You will write a report on estimating how much are you most likely to earn after graduation. Below is the detailed instruction for you to complete the assignment:

    1. Select two to four Occupations that you are interested in pursuing after graduation. These should align with your major area of study (your major, majors, or major minor).

    2. Research and Collect Relevant Data: Below is a list of suggested data sources which are very helpful for your analysis. Please browse the websites and carefully examine the data provided. Use the data to gather relevant wage information needed for your estimates. You are allowed to supplement your analysis with additional reliable sources, be sure to cite all sources in your report.

BLS Occupational Employment and Wage StatisticsLinks to an external site.
BLS Wage Data by Area and OccupationLinks to an external site.
Earnings by EducationLinks to an external site.
ACS Detailed Field of Degree and Median Annual EarningsLinks to an external site.
Modeled Wage Estimates from BLSLinks to an external site.
CPS Data TablesLinks to an external site.
    3. Perform Analysis: Below is the instruction to guide your analysis; you don't have to follow the exact same sequence but you should at least include all the factors that are suggested to be considered (industry, location, education degree, major, age, and gender); feel free to discuss all the other factors that you believe important for your estimates. If you want to perform analysis that is different from the instruction, make sure to describe the analysis procedure clearly.

Summary Statistics: Present the wage distribution (by quartiles or percentiles) data for the chosen occupation(s). You can also directly go to the next step(s) if the wage statistics are based on industry or location, or areas of study, etc.
Determine how the wages vary by industry and locations (the metropolitan areas that you plan to work).
Analyze how your degree in your major (e.g., Economics) influences potential earnings.
Further adjust for other factors such as age and gender that may impact earnings in your chosen occupations.
If you believe there are other important factors affecting the wage estimate, please describe those factors and analyze how they affect your estimate.
Use graphs or tables to visualize the data where appropriate.
Regression analysis is optional but recommended. If you use regression analysis, please clearly describe the type of regression, dependent and independent variables.
    4. Estimate a Wage Range: Determine a wage range that you are likely to earn immediately after graduation for each of the occupations that you choose. The range should be specific and no more than 20% (e.g., if the minimum is $50,000, the maximum should not exceed $60,000). Present your rationale clearly how the range is determined.

    Structure of the Report
Your report should be structured as follows:

Title Page: Include your name, course title, assignment title, and date of submission.

    Introduction:

Briefly state the major tasks that you need to complete for the assignment.
Identify the occupations you choose to analyze.
Provide a brief overview of the factors influencing wages that you will explore in your report.
    Data Collection:

Present the data sources that you will use for obtaining the estimate.
Describe the data provided from the sources and explain why you selected them for you to estimate potential earnings.
    Analysis:

Present a detailed analysis of each occupation, including:
Wage data by location, education, and demographic factors.
Discussion of how each factor (location, education, demographic characteristics) impacts potential earnings.
    Wage Range Estimation:

Provide a clear wage range for each occupation (within the 20% limit).
Justify the range using the data and analysis provided.
Discussion: Summarize your findings and reflect on how your estimate aligns or contrasts with your expectations.

References: List all the data sources and references used in APA format.

    Length and Format:
Page Limit: The report should be between 5 to 8 pages, excluding the title page and references.
Formatting: Use 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins.
    Grading Criteria:
Your report will be graded based on the following criteria:

Completeness and Relevance (20%): Did you address all aspects of the assignment?
Data Analysis (30%): Quality and depth of the analysis, use of data, and appropriate justification for the wage range.
Clarity and Structure (20%): Is the report well-organized and easy to follow?
Critical Thinking and Insight (20%): Demonstrates understanding of how different factors affect wages.
Proper Citation and References (10%): Correct use of APA format and citation of all data sources.
    Note:

This is an individual assignment, you are allowed to discuss with your classmates for the assignment, but you should write the assignment individually and the report should present your original work. You will write a report on estimating how much are you most likely to earn after graduation

Identical or substantially similar submissions are considered as plagiarism, which will lead to 0 grade of the submissions.

Create a family map/Genogram of another person’s family

Family mapping (genogram)is a structure that provides the provider with information about a family of origin issues which can be used as a therapeutic point of reference.  Sometimes refer to as a family genogram, family mapping provides a framework for understanding family patterns. Family mapping can also help a patient see connections within their family.

For this assignment, you will create a family map/Genogram of another person's family. No identifiers should be noted on the family map/genogram, and you should make clear to the person being mapped that this is for an assignment.

It is just as helpful to map a person who reports a stable/happy childhood as someone who reports trauma – the idea is to reveal connections whether trauma-based or not and for you to practice seeing the value of this tool.

          1. Create a legible family map/genogram indicating the patient/client
            1. Include three generations – For example, the parents and the grandparents of the person you are doing the mapping. We ask that you include all family members including aunts and uncles.
          2. Write a brief discussion of (no more than 250 words)  depicting the family connections. This should be written in a narrative format. No APA required.
          3. Include a legend to illustrate the identification.
          4. Lines must be used to demonstrate connections.
          5. Compare to the ACE score for the person being mapped – follow the link to the ACE questionnaire
