Week3; identify the risk and the risk type and domain for this case study
Part one of the rubric says, identify the risk and the risk type and domain for this case study. What is the type of risk? If you look in the module, you will see information on compliance, hazard, control, and opportunity risks. Sometimes the case can have more than risk one risk type. Complete the learn by applying section in Module three for more information on types of risk and how they are explained. The next issue is the risk domain for the case study. In Module three, again, there are learning activities about the domains. The domains are operational, clinical safety, strategic, financial, human capital, legal and regulatory technology and hazard. Please review Module three so that you can specifically identify the domain of risk for this case study. The second part of the rubric talks about contributory factors. What are the four factors that contributed to the identified risk that you identified in part one. What is a contributory risk factor? This is a variable that increases the likelihood of something happening in health care. For example, if your waiting room times in the ED are terrible and this leads to delayed triage diagnosis and treatment, you know that something is going to happen. In part three, it talks about proactive measures. What’s a proactive measure? This is an action that you can take to prevent or mitigate the negative effects of a situation rather than responding to it after the event happens. In other words, it’s a primary prevention method. You know that it might rain, you take your umbrella, and you can use that umbrella if it starts to rain to keep yourself dry. In this particular section, you are going to discuss three proactive measures to reduce or prevent the risk. Listing the measures is not enough. You must write at the graduate level, describing, explaining, and supporting your decision when choosing your three proactive measures. Please use at least one scholarly source that supports all of your proactive measures. The fourth part of this assignment talks about mitigation strategies. What’s a mitigation strategy? A mitigation strategy is an action that you can take to reduce the impact of the risk. We want you to discuss three mitigation strategies. Again, discussing means that you’re going to robustly write about these strategies using scholarly sources to support your choice and your reasoning. You need to explain how each of these strategies are going to work to mitigate the risk identified in the case study. Next is parts five regulatory agencies. This is an area where students sometimes struggle. What is a regulatory agency? It is an agency that is either a public or government that enforces and has the authority to enforce safety standards for healthcare practitioners, facilities, and products. We give you a few examples here. For instance, your local County Health Department or your state health department, or your professional State Board of Nursing or the State Board of Medicine. From a federal perspective, the FDA, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, CMSS, and the OIG Office of the Inspector General, and of course, Neo, which has to do with occupational Safety and Health. These are just some examples. It’s not limited to this list, but you have to pick a regulation from one of these agencies that you find that are enforceable. And we want you to discuss it. Again, you don’t list it, you discuss it, writing at the graduate level, and we want you to use a scholarly source or a resource from the regulatory agency that you chose to show how it applies in this case scenario. Please do not use key opinion leader societies. For instance, there are some organizations that supply clinical practice guidelines. It does not mean that they’re a regulatory agency. A regulatory agency has the power to enforce a standard. Make sure whichever regulatory agency you choose that they have that enforcement action as part of their duties. In part six, you’re going to provide a summary. The first part is really your opinion on how you as an NP, are going to monitor whether these mitigation strategies that you chose are actually going to work? How will you know? Because surveillance is super important to knowing that you’ve been effective? We also want you to think of yourself once you’re an MP. How will you personally, as you go about caring for patients, as an MP, use these mitigation strategies in your own practice? How will you integrate this in your personal clinical workflow? Then the last piece is, did you have any a ha moments when completing this assignment? You can use writing in the first person in this part of the summary. In scholarly writing, we ask that you use the third person only. But when it’s a personal reflection, it is okay to write in the first person. If you don’t know what this means, please go to the writing center and look at the area that says, writing in the point of view. If you have any questions or any concerns, your first point of contact is always your. Please reach out to your instructor in a timely basis prior to the deadline of your assignment to clarify, ask questions, and if you have areas that you don’t understand, your instructor is happy to help you. Thank you for listening to this little video, and we hope that this helps with your week three assignment.
