The credentials are the use of data from Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance. This source is somewhat specialized in the field of observing families, so they were able to watch over 100 families grow at different points in their life, and were able to see what discipline methods had been used. This was published February 2006, this is somewhat timely, although physical confrontation is something every schools face even today. This source is very relevant giving the other side of spanking children and places where it is more accepted by law like Texas. Putting out specific numbers like a third of the population in that area considered hitting a child with a belt or a paddle physical abuse. This source is credited because all the information is based off research done in family study laboratories. The author is invested as a university, trying to conduct and find research in regards to the theoretical perspective of corporal punishment. The perspective that is acknowledged is the open acceptance of corporal punishment throughout different cultures and times in our history. This was published September 5, 2005. Miller, Julie. “Helping Children Figure Out Whether to Fight Or Play.” New York Times: 14CN.1. National Newspapers Core. 1999. Web. 26 Feb. 2011
This source will give examples of some of the situations that come from physical punishment. This article will show that children in our schools have become more violent and resort to violence quicker. When children at a particular school were asked if faced with a situation where a fight was going to take place, many of them said they would just fight and get it over with. This article explains some of the alternate solutions that need to be utilized when it comes to disciplining our children. The main reasons for resorting to these alternative options are to help the children being punished make better decision all thru life. Let it be when in a verbal confrontation with the parent, or even a physical confrontation at school. This article was published April, 11 1999. Even though the information is over a decade old, it still relates to situations we face in schools today, when it comes to children in older grade levels they tend to resort to violence as an option.

Spanking can Create Defiant Kids
Mar 27, 11
Faherty, John. “Spanking can Create Defiant Kids, Report Says.” Arizona Republic: A.1. 1007716 1006936 1007945 1007728. 2009. Web. 26 Feb. 2011
This article and source is very important because it will give the important reasons for disciplining children, and some of the affects it has as well. This article clearly points out that they are not trying to convey that children shouldn’t be disciplined, but that they should just in the correct manner. This article written by a professor in Michigan remains credited because of her direct experience as a mother of two children. She relates to parents problems and need to discipline children. She clearly points out that she is not against physical punishment, but the real trick in parenting is to get the attention of the child without having to spank, or take the situation to that level. This article is unbiased giving reasons and situation were spanking occurs and is acceptable and also giving situations where physical punishment wouldn’t be affective to the child because the message may confuse them. This article was published in 2009, being that the professor was a parent, the continued challenges all parents face tend to remain the same even to this day.

Conclusion
During my research I was able to find somewhat of an answer to my question regarding the effects on children that are physically punished. Majority of the research clearly proves that we all do not agree with having to result to physical punishment on our children, but at the same time majority of parents have at one point had to result to physical punishment as a form a disciplining. Some research says any form of physical and verbal punishment can cause behavior problems, and other researchers notice the need to discipline children, just in the correct way. All the research in a sense clearly shows the behavior of the parent will affect the child, and the child’s behavior will affect the parent.
