Do you recall lunchtime at school? Did you hang around the same group of people? I know I tried to connect with many “cliques” while in middle school. It seems that unless we are forced to get outside of our comfort zone we won’t go outside of our groups. This week I challenge you all to reflect and consider “Mixing it up” at school, work, or in your community.
For this week’s assignment you will follow these three steps:
- Visit the Teaching Tolerance (Links to an external site.) and watch video on What is Mix It Up at Lunch Day?
- Next, go to Mix It Up Activities (Links to an external site.) and select one grade (Pre-k through 12th grade) and preview one activity that you would consider using to help “Mix It Up” in your classroom, school, or community.
- Share your activity selection with me providing a detailed description and give your opinion whether the Mix It Up campaign may help change attitudes about diversity. Support your answer with a citation from readings and website.
