A SWOT analysis is done by leaders in an organization to assess the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It is considered a useful time-tested leadership tool. SWOT analysis is known to take place in strategic planning exercises in healthcare systems and hospitals as well as various businesses. The SWOT analysis is a structured, systematic way of thinking about, and exploring areas for optimal utilization, for resource exploitation, and areas of vulnerability needing improvement or development. SWOT analysis assists organizations in building on what they do well, it helps them to address what the organization is lacking, and helps in minimizing risks. SWOT analysis allows organizations to take the greatest possible advantage of chances for success (White, 2018).

Case Management certification benefits high risk patients in my hospital because it ensures that there is a common baseline of knowledge and also gives the professional and public assurance of a certain degree of competence and higher quality of case management services (Dunham-Taylor & Pinczuk, 2015). As healthcare continues to advance, the need for certified case managers who have the knowledge and skills to manage complex cases while saving time and money is increasing. As the elderly population grows, and cases of chronic illnesses are becoming more prevalent, and with the constant increase in healthcare cost, this population is requiring more assistance in navigating the healthcare system. This problem can be alleviated with more assistance from case managers who are certified in treatment protocols, and improving client services.

When it comes to providing value-based healthcare and using a patient-centered approach, the old systems of healthcare management will not stand the test of time. Healthcare reforms have caused healthcare organizations to realign their thinking and leadership in order to keep up with the changing times in global healthcare. Care is no longer confined within hospital walls but instead has extended beyond employees and practitioners and in to communities. Therefore, it is essential to have leaders that posses traditional health skills but also have the ability to reinvent the way each member of the healthcareorganization perceives and enacts change (Naranjo-Gil et al., 2016).

COLLAPSEThe specialty of nursing informatics incorporates the science of nursing, computer science, and information technology to direct and exchange data, information, and knowledge within the nursing practice (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018). It assists in easing this integration process which in turn supports patients, nurses, and other healthcare providers in their decision-making process. However, this process is not without barriers as the impact of information technology (IT) has been a subject of discourse in my clinical setting for some time now. Regardless of the benefits of this system, adapting to information technology in healthcare has been relatively difficult, and the rates of use have been limited. Many of the nurses have regarded themselves as being novice in the world of information technology with almost half of them stating they lack sufficient training.

My strategy as a leader for eliminating these barriers would be to empower patient care from any point, increase patient efficiency, and welcome the use of information technology modernization. In my view, some nurses just do not want to be bothered with the computer system because they have stressed that it takes away time from the patient as well as not feeling proficient in the use of the system. In my view, one solution for this is to place the laptop on wheels so they can be taken into the patients rooms and the nurse can spend more time with the patient while updating the patient’s records. Another solution would be to advocate for additional training for nurses who feel they are not proficient in using the system as this can also enhance their likeability of the system. As IT advances, it can be very challenging for users, however to meet patients expectations, nurses have a role in appraising these technologies and as leaders and healthcare providers, we must strive to afford patients the best possible outcomes, and be willing to be the forerunners for the advancement of technology in the healthcare industry (Mitchell, 2015).
