BMED 4300 UVU Mod 7 Programming in The Python Language Project

BMED 4300 UVU Mod 7 Programming in The Python Language Project

Question Description

Let’s get familiar with programming in the Python language! I love programming… the challenges and hard-earned victories, but mostly being the evil computer overlord, where machines bow to my every command. <evil_laugh>

Before we dive in to computer science material and curriculum, we need to have at least a surface level familiarity with programming. The Microsoft Learning Path linked below will give you just that.

  • Time to complete: 4.5 hours

>>> directions

  1. Open the Microsoft Learning Path entitled “Take your first steps with Python (Links to an external site.)
  2. Log in to your Microsoft account
  3. Complete the entire learning path
    • This path consists of 10 smaller modules
  4. Remember to save the python files you create during this boot camp. You’ll need to submit them for assignment credit.

There are two files to upload for full credit on this assignment: (1) a screenshot, and (2) your Python files.

  1. Create a zip file of the folder containing all Python files created during this Python boot camp.
    • Navigate to the folder containing these files
    • Right click the folder
      • MAC: select “Compress”
      • PC: select “Send to”, then “Compressed (zipped) folder”
    • Name the zip file python_boot_camp
  2. Navigate to your profile:
    • Click on the round silhouette icon in the upper right corner of the website
  3. Take a screenshot of your “Overview” page (example below)
    • Make sure I can see your user name and all 10 modules you completed!
    • Here is a link to a video that explains more thoroughly how to get this screenshot:
  4. Along with the zip file you created, upload this screenshot:

Module 2: “Set up your Python beginner development environment with Visual Studio Code”

  • This module recommends you install and setup “Visual Studio Code” as an IDE
  • Although this is a fine IDE, I usually recommend only two IDE’s to my beginning students:
    1. repl.it (Links to an external site.): online, requires no installation
    2. Thonny (Links to an external site.): an installed IDE made specifically for beginners. Easiest install of any IDE.
  • I recommend installing Thonny even if you plan on using replit. Replit classrooms is a little ‘buggy’ when it comes to file handling (which is a state mandated strand in computer science).

Module 7: “Import standard library modules to add features to Python programs”

  • Skip the 4th page titled “Install a third-party package using pip”
